What are the costs of midwifery care?
Midwifery care in the Netherlands is covered by the basic health insurance package. Any additional services may affect the costs. Read more information about our rates and check your specific situation and health insurance coverage.
What can I expect in terms of check-ups during my pregnancy?
During your pregnancy, we schedule regular check-ups to ensure the health of both you and your baby. Initially, these appointments occur approximately once a month, increasing in frequency around week 28. The check-ups include ultrasounds, blood pressure measurements, and discussions regarding your questions and concerns. If you feel the need for additional check-ups, that is always possible.

How many % gives birth on the due date?
It’s funny how in our work, we often focus on the due date. Early ultrasounds to calculate it, monitoring if the ultrasounds align, arranging everything around a certain duration… But how many percent actually give birth on the due date? That’s only about 5%! So, chances are that you’ll be sitting on your due date, with or without a baby. But in 95% of cases, at least without contractions. Still, it’s a good indicator because most women give birth within the 3 weeks before or 2 weeks after.
What should I do in case of light vaginal bleeding?
Light vaginal bleeding can have various causes, often benign, but sometimes it can be a cause for concern. Always contact us if you experience bright red vaginal bleeding. Together, we will assess your situation and determine the necessary care.
What is the chance of a miscarriage?
A very valid question! Because as soon as you have a positive pregnancy test in hand, panic often sets in suddenly. And then waiting for that first ultrasound can feel like a long time. You have about a 10% chance of a miscarriage when you have a positive test. If we see a beating heart at 8 weeks on the vitality ultrasound, the chance drops to only 3%. So, it’s a super exciting period. If you’re worried, always contact us.
Is it true that you have more heartburn during pregnancy if the baby has a lot of hair?
Yes, having a lot of heartburn increases the chances of having a baby with a lot of hair. This is because a larger amount of estrogen and progesterone leads to increased hair growth. These hormones also cause the esophagus to relax more, allowing occasional reflux of stomach acid.
Can I fly during my pregnancy?
Planning a delightful vacation during your pregnancy? Definitely do it! There are no specific risks for pregnancy. So, if you still want to enjoy some time with your feet in the sand? GO FOR IT! Just make sure to check until which week of pregnancy the airline allows you to travel, as this varies by airline. If you’re taking a long flight, make sure to stretch your legs regularly.
